CDPF holds seminar to study newly adopted Civil Code

The China Disabled Persons' Federation (CDPF) held a study seminar on the Civil Code on June 5.

Lv Shiming, vice chairman of the CDPF, conveyed the spirit of the third Session of the13th National People's Congress (NPC). He pointed out that the adoption of the Civil Code by the NPC fully manifested the achievements of the socialist legal system with Chinese characteristics and the public confidence in the system, and contributed Chinese wisdom and solutions to the development of the legal civilization of mankind.

The Civil Code contains at least 27 major articles relating to people with disabilities, reflecting the equal protection of their rights and interests in the basic laws of the country.

The Civil Code demonstrates the advantages of the socialist system with Chinese characteristics in the new era, and is a modern code for advancing the national governance system and the governance capacity of the country. It is also a model code for safeguarding people's rights and guaranteeing social justice.

Li Qingzhong, director of the CDPF board of executive directors spoke about his experience of attending the third Session of the13th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), and reviewed CPPCC members’ efforts to enhance the protection of rights and interests of people with disabilities in the new Civil Code.

Li said that the CDPF should take note of the importance of the Civil Code in strengthening the protection of the rights and interests of people with disabilities, strive to make it effective and make good use of it in practical work.

Content related to people with disabilities in the Civil Code was interpreted at the seminar.
