The China Disabled Persons’ Federation (CDPF) urged disabled persons’ federations of provincial regions suffering from heavy flooding, including East China’s Anhui and Jiangxi provinces, central provinces Henan, Hubei and Hunan and Southwest China’s Chongqing, to attach great importance to flood prevention and disaster relief work at a videoconference held on July 27.
The CDPF listened to the reports of the above-mentioned provinces and cities’ disabled persons’ federations on the situation of the disabled people affected by the flood. It emphasized always put people’s life as the top priority, and always ensure the security of people’s life and property. More effective measures should be taken for flood prevention and disaster relief, with a high sense of responsibility and urgency.
Zhou Changkui, chairman of the CDPF, put forward further requirements for the local disabled persons’ federations to cooperate in flood prevention and disaster relief work. He urged them attach great importance to that work. As it is now the main flooding season, it should be their top priority.
The federations should care for people with disabilities suffering from the disaster, and reflect their difficulties and needs to the government, Zhou said. It is necessary to visit the disabled with special difficulties at a regular basis and provide timely care, support and assistance to them.
He also emphasized to mobilize all social forces to help people with disabilities, raise funds and materials, and mobilize all social forces to participate in post-disaster reconstruction and production recovery.
