Since the beginning of the13th Five-Year Plan (2016-20), China's education for people with disabilities has achieved leapfrog development. 

Special education teachers are fundamental to the development of special education. The China Disabled Persons' Federation, together with the Ministry of Education and the Bank of Communication has established an award for the special education teachers, which affirms not only the dedicated and enterprising teachers in special education but also the magnificent achievements in Chinese education for people with disabilities in recent years.

In 2017, the Ministry of Education and the China Disabled Persons’ Federation issued a notice on enrollment in compulsory education for children and adolescents with disabilities. Children and adolescents are placed in special education schools. For disabled children and adolescents who need special care and cannot attend school, compulsory education is implemented through home education or distant education. Liuzhou No 1 Technical Vocational School in Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, officially established in 1983, was among the first batch of national-level key secondary vocational schools. The school implements hierarchical teaching. Disabled students with low-level disabilities and good cultural foundations are integrated into study in ordinary classes. A three-level learningsystem of strengthening the foundation, learning cooperation, and grasping skills has been established. [Photo/Picture Library of China's Disability Career]
